3 Plant cell walls A Plant Cell Wall has many important jobs. The main two jobs it has are to provide protection and support for the plant. The Cell Wall: Gives the plant it’s actual shape. It acts as a gate keeper, determining what can come in and out of the cell, in order to keep the cell protected.

4 Bacteria Cell Wall Bacteria cell wall protects the cell from osmotic shock and physical damage. In addition, it also confers rigidity and shape of bacterial cells. Although bacterial cell walls all consist of peptidoglycan, also known as murein or mucopeptide, they differ in certain properties in two groups of bacteria, namely gram-negative and gram-positive.

5 Cell Wall Functions and structures
Cell Wall functions for Plant Cells consist of cellulose. Cellulose is a structural carbohydrate and is consider a complex sugar because it is used in both protection and structure. Cell Wall Functions for Bacterial Cell Wall consist of Prokaryotes have a rigid cell wall. The cell wall is an essential structure that protects the cell protoplast from mechanical damage and from osmotic rupture or lysis.
