Believe that there was a gap between Gen 1:1 and 1:2
Possibly billions of years between the two verses
First creation was destroyed, and that is when the earth “became without form and void”
Problems:
Why would God destroy a previous creation that was “good”
Would previous creation have included sin and death, when sin entered the world when Adam sinned (Rom 5:12)

Creation occurred over a long period of time
At certain times, God created different batches of animals
Problems:
Ignores the literal reading of Genesis 1 (evening and morning were ___ day)
Also violates Rom. 5:12 (death came from Adam’s sin). This view suggests millions of years of suffering and death before Adam was created

Mixes Bible and biological evolution
Accepts that God created, but God used evolution as the method for creating the diversity of life we see today
This process had to take millions of years
Problems:
Ignores literal reading of Genesis 1
Ignores that man was a direct creation (Gen 1:27)
Violates Romans 5:12 (death was result of Adam’s sin)
Limits God’s omniscience and omnipotence
