2 Job Description/Duties  An endocrinologist is a doctor that specializes in hormone conditions  Responsibilities/Duties  Examine Patients- Endocrinologists examine patients to find problems caused by the Pancreas, Thyroid, or the Adrenal Gland  Look for diabetes  Preform biopsies  Preform surgeries on certain body parts if disease is present, for example surgery to take out the Thyroid if needed  Provide treatment for medical conditions  Research Diseases  Prescribe Medications  Check for cancer  Handle many different patients

3 Work Setting  In a typical day, most endocrinologists see a number of patients  Work regular office hours, Monday to Friday  An endocrinologist's work is highly demanding but equally rewarding.

4 Personal Characteristics Needed  Being an endocrinologist requires a lot of patience  Also need to stay on top of things  An endocrinologist may have many patients at a time so they need be organized and stay on top of things  Need to be friendly  Need to be very knowledgeable  It is also important to keep your patients informed  Being an endocrinologist isn’t exactly a super fun job but it’s a good way to make a living  Must like helping others  Being organized

5 Education  Must complete medical school along with a 2-3 year fellowship  24 training months  12 clinical months and perform biopsies  Courses recommended in high school are: Health Careers, Human Anatomy, and Biology

6 Wages and Benefits  Average starting salary of an endocrinologist is $165,000 a year  Salary Ranges between around $100,000 and $300,000  The average salary for an endocrinologist is $178,264 a year  Benefits are malpractice and liability insurance, 403(b) plans, 401(k) plans, relocation expenses, paid vacations and holidays, life and disability insurance, and company pension plans.

7 Employment Outlook  The job outlook for endocrinology is very good  Expected to jump up by 22% by 2018  As population expands so does the need for endocrinologists along with much of the medical field

8 Personal Assessment  I am interested in this job for a number of reasons  The pay is very good  Fits my personality, it’s a job I think I can do  With my recent thyroid issue I’ve had to see an endocrinologist which is what first got me interested in the field and even how I knew that endocrinologists even existed  Reasons I’m not interested  Doesn’t seem too fun  Requires a ton of schooling and training
