Immigration in the U.S.

Which Way? Many immigrants come to America in the hopes of a new and better life. For this, they start to apply for citizenship (whether they get it or not is a different story) Others come to the U.S. to work for a while and then go back home to their families. These people don’t want to have to apply for citizenship, and just want to make money and get back to their families.

American Fear of Immigrants Many Americans are afraid of immigrants for different reasons: Some fear the cultural differences of immigrants And some fear that immigrants take jobs that are rightfully for Americans The truth is that immigrants mostly come to America to work. Because of this. They work twice as hard as the average American for half the price. The are not “stealing” American jobs, they are working hard to have those jobs.

U.S. immigration Laws On April 23, 2010, Arizona’s governor signed the toughest bill on immigration in the nation. The law allowed for the police to stop anyone that they thought might be an illegal immigrant, and if the person wasn’t carrying immigration documents on them, then the police could detain them This made it so the police could openly discriminate and harass Hispanics This caused many protests to take place in Arizona.

Celebrities Speak Out Shakira spoke out about the Arizona law saying that it goes against the ideals of America The law made way for racial profiling, and it even caused an Mexican airline to cancel all flights to Arizona The supporters of the law said that it was needed in order to lessen the crime in Arizona, which has 460,000 illegal immigrants, and is a large contributor to drug smugglers from Mexico
