The Digestive System By: Keesha Catalan

Mouth  The mouth chews up the food in your mouth into tiny little pieces. Then it sends it down your esophagus.

Esophagus  The esophagus is a long tube that allows food to go down to the small intestine.

Stomach  The stomach breaks down the food. The it sends it to the small intestine.

Small intestine  The small intestine does most of the digesting of the food that you eat. Then it sends it down to the large intestine.

Large intestine  The large intestine absorbs the water from the indigestible food and transmit the useless waste material from the body.

Liver  The liver cleans your blood, it makes a digestive liquid called bile, and it stores an energy called glycogen.

Appendix  The appendix produces and protects good germs for the guts by rebooting the digestive system.

Pancreas  The pancreas produces enzymes and hormones that help break down foods.

Gall Bladder  The gall bladder is responsible to digest the fats in the foods.

Enzymes  The enzymes helps us in breaking of different minerals.

Bile / Bile Duct  Bile is a digestive juice secreted by the liver and it is stored in the gallbladder and aids the digestions of fat.

Mucus  Mucus basically keeps everything gliding along.

Chemical digestion  Chemical digestion has a chemical that breaks down food into simpler compound.

Mechanical digestion  Mechanical has a chemical using a chemical to digest and/or break down food.

Salivary amylase  Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates. It is naturally found in your saliva.

Absorption  Absorption transfers the nutrients into the blood stream.

Villi  Villi is the wall of the small intestines.

Gastric juices  Gastric juices break down food and dissolve the nutrients in the food.

Duodenum  Duodenum releases chyle or chyme that commences the acid soup mix.

Chyme  Chyme is the mix of food and digestive fluids.
