2 LEAPS Summer School 7-week Summer School taught across partner campuses Supports entry, transition and retention in Higher Education 3 courses of university level study including Academic Skills LEAPS-eligible* (WP criteria), from 59 state schools in SE Scotland Students hold a conditional offer of a place at uni. in the UK Reports written for each student to support admission *for LEAPS eligibility criteria, please see: www.leapsonline.org/eligibility-criteria.html

3 Our students 170 students From one of 59 schools in South East Scotland Have conditional offers for a wide range of subjects and UK institutions Express reasonable pre-course confidence * Straight from the Scottish school environment *Unpublished data from ‘LEAPS Survey 2012: exploring attitudes to learning in higher education’. 110 of the 170 prospective Summer School cohort completed the survey (64.7%). Of these, 12.7% chose the option ‘I feel very confident that I will be able to achieve the standard of work required at university’, 70.9% chose ‘confident’ and 16.4% ‘uncertain’.

4 Transition from school to Higher Education Skills and strategies that contribute to success Develop confident independent learners TLA: blended learning – classroom and online Summative assessment: essay (50%) group presentation (50%) Formative assessment opportunities – in class and online The Academic Skills course Informed by literature and practice – we develop the course each year Popular (reasonably - currently 5 th in the top 5 things students enjoyed on SS 2014)
