 Welcome to Braeside PS  Parent Information Session  Thursday 11 th June 2015

2 Literacy Pro is a research- based, online reading assessment It is based on over 20 years of research undertaken internationally. It is a continuous developmental scale that measures both; and Text complexity What is Literacy Pro? Reader ability

3 Assess Reader ability and text complexity on the same developmental scale – Lexile. 3 Core Functions Of Literacy Pro… Develop Readers’ skills through targeted reading of the right books. Students are catered for through the provision of appropriately challenging texts, quizzes and feedback Inform Teachers and student about reading performance compared to norm-referenced data. Data may be used to plan and evaluate teaching/learning programs.

4 Students sit a Lexile Test online to determine a lexile reading measure Students start the test on an average lexile item for their year level. If they answer the question correctly, he/ she is given a more challenging one. If the student answers the question incorrectly, a question at a lower level is posed. After approximately 20 questions, a Lexile Score will be determined. How it works…

5 Children log on to the Scholastic Learning Zone Website using their individual logon details From the Beginning

6 This is Lorelai. She is in Year 3. She is taking the Literacy Pro test for the first time. Each student takes the online Lexile test

When students take the LitPro Test, they are given clear instructions. Pop-ups must be allowed for students to take the LitPro Test. LitPro Test

The default is set so that students will take a Practice Test before they start the LitPro Test to familiarise them with the test environment. The questions are at a lower level than the student’s current Lexile. They are warned when the practice test is over. LitPro Practice Test

9 At the end of the Test

After students take the Lit Pro test, it updates their Lexile in My Results. The LitPro Test page is then made inactive, until the next due date. This is based on the Administrator’s or Teacher’s Settings. LitPro Test

LiteracyPro Averages

12 Now what Students can engage in the Literacy Pro Program through their log in- select books, identify interests etc Students are now ready to start selecting Lexile Books from the library. It is recommended that students select books that are within a 50 point range above or below their score. Once a book is complete, students sit a quiz to assess their comprehension of what they read.

Each personalized list is based on the student’s reading interests. After reading a book, students may take an online quiz. Students may create a personalized reading list within their Lexile range

Literacy Pro Quizzes Assess Comprehension Of Books Students Choose To Read. If a child leaves mid quiz they will be given a 0 for the quiz. They can then retake the quiz at a later date.

Lorelai Is Given Immediate Feedback And Is Able To Comment On And Rate The Book. Students receive immediate feedback on how well they understood the book. They are able to rate the book and comment on it. Teachers do not need to read all the books students choose to read to know how well they have understood them.

Receiving immediate feedback and seeing results change motivates students to read more. 75% The Student’s My Results Are Updated Immediately
