6 3. Read the text entitled “Global Trade” Interactions 2, pp. 107-108 Circle the number of the one main idea of the reading selection “Global Trade” 1. Almost the entire world now shares the same economic system—capitalism—which is based on the idea of open trade. 2. Good economic times benefit poor countries, as well as rich ones, because “the rising tide lifts all the boats” 3. Geography is a serious disadvantage for many landlocked, tropical countries. 4. The result of protectionist policies of rich countries is that “open” trade isn’t actually open, and poor countries are at a disadvantage. 5. Many developing countries are at a disadvantage in global trade, but they can find success with good government policies.
