3 Part One Introduction:
In the last five years in Jakarta there are more than 25 shopping malls and hypermarket built throughout Jakarta. Nowadays it is easier for Jakarta people to find a shopping malls than a public playground. What phenomenon is it? Is shopping in malls more than just buying people’s need? Is it an urban lifestyle?

3.1. Summarizing (p.88) Circle the number if the one main idea of the reading selection Fads in fashion are common because clothing manufacturers make more money if styles change every year. Trends are basically “long-lasting fads” Fads usually last a very short time, but they can be a lot of fun. People follow many different kinds of fads because they like to be part of something new and creative. The ability to distinguish between fads and trends is increasingly important in the business world.

7 3.2. Skimming (for main ideas)
Students often need to read so much material that they don’t have time to reread it before an important exam. For this reason it’s necessary to learn how to mark a book: the topics, main ideas and important details. Read the paragraphs in “Fads and Trends at the Turn of the Twenty-First Century” pp As you read, mark the topic, main idea and important details.

8 3.3. Discuss with your friend the following questions: (p. 92)
Fads in fashion are In your country, is there a countertrend toward simplicity? If so, what do people do to simplify their lives? What “extreme sports” are popular these days? Have you ever tried any of these? Do you know anyone who has tried one? If so, tell your group about this sport. Why is it so thrilling-so exciting? Are there any scents that cause you to experience a “sudden rush of memories”?

9 Part Two Read the following text:
Answer the following questions: What the main issue on the text? Write an outline of the text? How do urban people set their healthy eating lifestyle?

10 PART THREE Discussing lifestyle in Indonesia nowadays, people may refer to television programs or film. One of Indonesian film which picture the recent social trends is “Arisan” (2003) directed by Nia Dinata In 200-word paragraph, students will discuss about the Indonesian lifestyle nowadays. The task will be submitted on the second meeting. (Week 6)
