KNOW: African Timbre – Chanting, Djembe & Balphon SHOW: Polyrhythm, Syncopation & ostinato. COMPOSE: A short African drumming piece West Africa

2 Djembe TASK: Bass Slap Tone
In a circle pass the djembe round and practice each technique.

3 Ostinato 1: An ostinato is a repeated rhythmical pattern 1 & 2 3 4

Syncopation Syncopation is where the accent is shifted from the main beat to a weaker beat. It’s a rhythm where the beats have different spacings between them. Task: In groups of 2 create a syncopated rhythm NOW!

Task 3: Pass the djembe round, sitting in a circle, 4 beat improvisation then 4 beat class response.
