3 Let’s begin our adventure: We all have stories to tell. Therefore, everyone is a writer. We’re going to work together to learn the 6 stages or steps of the writing process. Writers tend to switch frequently among the steps as they work. It is very useful to think about writing as a process; it is not step-by-step. We will study what writers do during the writing process : prewrite, draft, revise, edit, evaluate, publish

4 The Task: You will be completing a flap book to record information about the 6 stages or steps of the writing process.

5 The Process: 1.Take a blank flap book from the literacy table. 2.Write the 6 steps of the writing process on each of the 6 top flaps. 3.Create your own visual to remember each stage. 4.Research, summarize, and record 5 bullet points facts in your own words about what happens at each stage underneath the flap! Use the following clipart visuals as a guide: prewrite draft revise edit evaluate publish

7 Evaluation rubric: worth 100 points: 0-3 points (poor), 4-6 (vague/average), 7-10 (excellent) ___ 10 points: 6 stages written in order on cut flaps ___ 10 points: visual to remember each stage ___ 10 points: 5 facts about prewriting ___ 10 points: 5 facts about drafting ___ 10 points: 5 facts about revising ___ 10 points: 5 facts about editing ___ 10 points: 5 facts about evaluating ___ 10 points: 5 facts about publishing ___ 10 points: neatly written & spellings correct ___ 10 points: “ Steps of the Writing Process ” & your name neatly written on the back

8 Conclusion: Now that you have completed your flap book, it is time to write! 1.Select a topic from your personal writing territories and prewrite about it in your journal. 2.Now draft a short writing (create a sloppy copy ) on the next page in your journal. 3.When everyone has completed his or her sloppy copy, wait to receive instruction on revising, editing, evaluating, and publishing !

10 WebQuest’s Learning Objectives: The student will recognize the 6 steps of the writing process. The student will identify steps to be completed at each of the six stages: prewrite, draft, revise, edit, evaluate, & publish. The student will summarize information found on Internet sites. The student will complete the first two stages of the writing process.
