4 Direct Proportion When 2 quantities are in direct proportion, if one increases the other increases by exactly the same proportion. Also if one decreases, the other decreases by exactly the same proportion.

6 Proportional Cook Off! We are going to cook a 3 course meal for all the students in the class. Your mission today is to organise what we will need in order to cook everything (there are 30 pupils in the class) Recalculate the amount of ingredients you will need for your chosen recipe Re-write the recipe with the correct measurements for everyone in the class Complete a shopping list using the information provided including prices

50g softened butter 2 tsp dried mixed herbs 750g potatoes , chopped into roastie size 500g carrots, each chopped into 2-3 chunks 2 tbsp olive oil 100g frozen peas 300ml chicken stock (serves 4) Main courses Steak and chips Ingredients For the chips 8 tbsp olive oil 2 large baking potato, peeled and cut into chips salt and freshly ground black pepper For the steak 500g rump steak 1 tbsp olive oil (serves 4) Pepper, tomato and basil pasta Ingredients 6 long sweet peppers, red, yellow, and orange 24 cherry tomatoes 4 cloves of garlic, peeled 14 tbsp olive oil 2 large bunches of basil 800g orecchiette pasta salt and pepper (serves 4) Include cooking times etc

Ratio of self raising flour, sugar, butter = 2:1:1 1 egg per 200g self raising flour 2tbsp jam per 50 g sugar 50g self raising flour makes 5 biscuits (makes 10 biscuits, everyone will want 2 biscuits each) Strawberry Knickerbocker Glory Ingredients Vanilla ice cream Ratio of whole milk, double cream =4:5 1 vanilla pod per 600 ml of whole milk 7 egg yolks per 250 g sugar 250g sugar and 600 ml of whole milk is enough for 4 sundaes Strawberry compote Ratio of orange juice to crème framboise = 1:1 2 vanilla pods per 750ml of orange juice 1 lemon and 1 orange (zest only) 8 peppercorns per 25 strawberries 25 strawberries makes enough compote for 4 sundaes (makes 4 sundaes, people will share 1 between 2) Chocolate Cheesecake Ingredients Filling Ratio of chocolate, cream cheese, caster sugar= 4:10:3 3 eggs per 200ml soured cream 200g of chocolate is enough to make a cheesecake that serves 10 people Biscuit base Ratio of biscuits to butter = 6:1 50g of butter is needed for a base that serves 10 (makes a cheesecake that serves 10)

11 Plenary We decided to serve canapés as people arrive for the meal.
Each canapé is made up of a cracker, 5g of cream cheese and a walnut. If we are going to make 30 canapés, what quantities of ingredients would we need? If we are going to make 60 canapés what quantities would we need?
