9. 1600’s … PA Native American Groups
There were two groups of Native Americans in Pennsylvania
1. Algonquian- which included the Lenni Lenapi and Shawnee
2. Iroquois- which included the Susquehannock and Iroquois .
The groups shared similar language and way of life.

Lived along the banks of the Brandywine and Delaware Rivers

Forced off their land by other tribes.

Lived by the Susquehanna River
Crops planted by women
Men hunted and fished
Made pottery

To end fighting among themselves they formed Iroquois League of Five Nations to form rules for everyone to follow.
Became the most powerful group of Native Americans in North America
Our Constitution is based on their rules.

17. Susquehannock Tribe

18. Facts: Lived in Longhouses Built palisades for protection
Always at war…couldn’t stay together
Died out by 1763
