2 Certification program Why does oneM2M need certification program? – Certification program provides the consistency in the behavior of compliant devices and services, – Thereby, it can provide an assurance of interoperability between various manufacturers’ devices and services – Certification is granted through a testing process compliant to oneM2M specification and requirements Goals of Certification Program – Improving interoperability – Shortening the product adoption process – Lowering adoption costs and time – Making product implementations easier to integrate © 2014 oneM2M Partners 2

5 Certification model-Option 1 Manage Income Budget effectively with Certification Fee Develop Test Specs. expeditiously and accurately by WG6 and Certification Entity Reflect certification and testing issues instantly for member requests Opportunity SDOs don’t have enough experience and resources for certification management It takes longer time to set-up and launch the certification program Weakness Select proper one of SDOs that will run oneM2M Certification Body Concatenate the best certification consulting agency that has full experiences to establish and manage Certification Entity Test WG should support and collaborate to develop test specs. and certification management program with recognized Certification Entity Strategy

6 Certification model-Option 2 Enforce the brand power for oneM2M logo through 3 rd Organizations e.g. GCF Set-up and establish suitable certification program professionally Opportunity No stake for certification fee. All Expense like participation fee are on members Some works such as test spec. development and testing event from Test WG could be conflict to independent certification entity Weakness Negotiate and decide the portion of Certification fee with 3rd certification entity Have authority for certification works such as making program management policy, developing test specifications, management of testing lab, testing tools and test events, etc. Strategy

8 Certification model-Option 3 No Certification fee, minimize cost and time Easily adopt oneM2M technology to products without barrier Opportunity No guarantee and assurance for interoperability between various manufacturers Weakness Provide self testing tool to check minimum testing requirement Strategy

9 Self- vs. Hybrid-Certification Self- and Hybrid-Certification need the certification entity(inside or outside oneM2M) to manage certification policy and testing tools. Need more discussion after determining certification model – Self-Certification: Applicable for simple conformance testing In general, certification fee is free Certification Entity(CE) should provide Self-certification testing tool Manufacturers can perform self-testing Manufacturers submit test result to CE, and CE can certify after reviewing – Hybrid-Certification: Self-certification and authorized 3 rd party testing Lab. Self-certification: Applicable for End Node devices developed by end users (D.I.Y) Common service layer certification: Applicable for devices & nodes produced for commercialization  Need external authorized 3 rd party testing Lab Vertical certification applicable for specific device & nodes in vertical(Prerequisite)
