July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting1 Training Approach Project Initiative (TAPI) Update Frances Mueller Cathy Handyside July 18, 2003

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting2 Agenda TAPI overview - Frances MAIS Learning & Information Center (MAIS LINC) demo - Cathy Project status, vision, known issues, considerations, & contingencies - Frances Plans for HRMS, SA, & FIN training & documentation - Frances Q & A session – Frances & Cathy

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting3 Our Mission Address user needs for improved training, documentation, and communication methods for MAIS systems by exploring and applying innovative best practices, tools, and technologies

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting4 Campus Feedback & Requests Reduce number of required courses and course length Provide training that is tailored to user needs Provide more self-study training Deliver training closer to system releases Increase frequency of courses offered for new employees Provide an environment to practice using the system outside of the classroom Distribute updated training materials through the Web Provide users with tools to help themselves Provide more opportunities to test out of training

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting5 Current Training Experience Register for classes, and wait for availability Travel to Wolverine Tower to attend a multi- hour course Work with training databases and guides that are out of sync with Production environment Do not have an easy method for obtaining updated training guides or documentation Receive information and updates distributed via email and the Web Do not have access to a practice environment or refresher training

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting6 Our Vision for the Future Web-based, “one-stop shopping” Blended learning E-learning training Instructor-led training Focus on performance support vs. training Phased implementation

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting7 Changes Required New delivery methods, tools, & technologies Simulations Knowledgebase Learning management system New methods for packaging content Smaller chunks of information Searchable in a knowledgebase

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting8 What’s New? Interactive, system simulations Guided – walk you through performing an M-Pathways task Practice – enable you to practice performing an M-Pathways task before you work in the real M-Pathways environment E-learning courses will replace some instructor-led courses One-stop shopping site for training, documentation, communications, and more…

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting9 What Will Remain The Same? Traditional training content will be delivered in smaller, separate chunks Step-by-step procedures Quick reference sheets Overviews of changes Scenarios Many instructor-led classes will remain for now Other related processes will remain for now Training registration by phone Request for system access (M-1) Course schedules

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting10 Our NEW Web-Based Delivery System… Coming December 2003!

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting11 Sample MAIS LINC Interface

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting12 Benefits to Users Less time waiting for training Less time away from office Access to latest documentation from one location and available when needed On-demand e-learning More self-study opportunities Information and learning tailored to individual needs Reduced course lengths

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting13 Benefits to Units Employees will have… Immediate access to the information that they need Practice environment Ability to review transactions repeatedly (refresher training)

July 18, 2003SA, HRMS, FIN Unit Liaison Meeting14 Benefits to MAIS Ability to deliver training closer to system releases Ability to provide system simulations that reflect our Production environment Ability to distribute updated training, documentation, and communications quickly through the Web Improved communications process and archiving
