8 21st century skills in educational practice 21st century skills are often part of the rhetoric of policy makers Educational policy in North America/some European countries emphasises basic skills (reading, math) at the cost of higher order thinking skills Asian countries seems to see the need to invest in higher order thinking skills SITES studies show that increasingly school principals and teachers talk about 21st century skills, but do net change their practice
