1 1/ 19 What is VAMK’s Moodle? –An open source Virtual Learning Environment system where instructors and students share knowledge and information. What is it used for? –Submission of assignments; –Material sharing; –Teachers can upload course materials and unload student assignment files; –For formal discussion, forum posts and follow up on reports.

4 4/ 19 Communication within VAMK UAS moodle often take place in multilingual forms. Users has the privilege to use (most) the resources in there favorite language. To switch btw English, Finnish or Swedish make use of the button. The table at the top-right part displays information about the current month, week, and day. Use the arrow pointing forward to navigate to the next calendar month and vice-versa. This section categorizes the courses within The Business Economics & Tourism, Technology & Communication, Social and Health Care Departments, among other miscellaneous. Click on any of the categories to explore in details. A click on "all courses" will expand headings displayed in the course categories. To register for a course, click on the name of the Degree Program, then the course name. Confirm the registration using the enrolment key provided by the course instructor. This link will guide you to courses taught over the years. This section is particularly useful for old students. Note: The link works only within VAMK UAS campus or with citrix connection (www.citrix.puv.fi)

5 5/ 19 The default language can be changed on the top right corner of the homepage. Click arrow on the edge to select your preferred language

6 Notice: The user IDs and passwords are the same in VAMK UAS. Students of VAMK UAS can login from anywhere around the world! Key-in your ID e.g. e0900 Enter your secret word/phrase, then Login Choose your preferred language: English, Suomi or Svenska VAMK User Guest Alternatively, you could login as a distinguished visitor to whom the resources on the moodle is extended. 6/ 19

7 The help icon will popup a relevant help window. The Key icon indicates that the course requires an enrolment key The Summary Icon signifies that the course has a note in a condensed form or an information from the course instructor The anonymous Icon indicates that the user has hidden his/her picture or possibly that the user has no picture The web icon indicates that the format of the file is unknown or that the file is internet based The Microsoft Word icon shows that the file was saved with a word processing program The Microsoft Excel icon shows that the file was saved in with spreadsheet program Three or more users icon means that the communication is visible to all members of the group One user icon. This means private information Two users icon. Indicates that the communication is restricted to maximum of two moodle users 7/ 19

12 This link leads to a page that displays the total number participants in the course, how long each participants has being idle and the current role of each participants; Often includes information about individual students & the course instructor. This is the easiest shortcut to accessing the course materials, assignments, among other vital course information. This feature is used for searching for posts/blogs containing a word or phrase which currently exit in the discussion forum. The results can be modified to cover other forums as well. The links from here covers information about the user (email, course title, last date of access & the user"s role). Both assignment grades and the users" profile can be viewed from here. Note: ”Unenrol me from this course” means to abort your participation in the course in question. This part displays the list of courses which the user is currently enrolled. Please contact the course instructor(s) immediately incase you can not find some of your courses here. This is the most common course view used in Moodle, notice that teachers can change the view, so not all the Moodle courses are just alike. www.profile.myspace.com 12/ 19

13 Unloading assignment(s) by means of the step- by-step procedures outlined here is simple and direct. To start, click on “Assignments”. Step 1 On the proceeding page, click on specific name of the assignment you want to upload e.g. “Assignment Example(one file)” Next is to Upload the file. Click on browse and follow the steps described in the proceeding slide. Step 2 Step 3 www.hercules-online.com 13/ 19 Deadlines are very important! The dates displayed in black fonts show that submission is not due yet. Incase a message is displayed in red, this means the deadline has passed. Some teacher sometime accept late submission. In case you have problem in submitting your assignment please contact the course teacher as soon as possible!

14 Step 4 In the displayed dialog box, look through the locations available and select the specific path where your file is located. Select the specific files name and then click on “Open”. Note: Multiple files can be zipped and uploaded as a single file. Step 5 Next is to Upload the file. Please not that the maximum size of upload-able file allowed is “10KB”. Click on “Upload this file” to continue. Step 6 Click on “Continue” to proceed. To discard the upload or choose a different file, click on “Back” on the explorers" navigation bar. Step 7 Step 5 www.hercules-online.com 14/ 19 The submission page will display a confirmatory message to show that your files was successfully uploaded. It will also display information about the date when the assignment was given and most importantly, the due date.

16 Choose the current forum Click Forums There is possibility of restricting the message to: 1.No groups - there are no sub groups, everyone is part of one big community; 2. Separate groups - each group can only see their own group, others are invisible; 3.Visible groups - each group works in their own group, but can also see other groups. The group mode can be defined at two levels The information shared via the forum is open to all the moodle users. Posts inside the forum are displayed either in chronological order or as threaded discussions and can be allowed to all or small group users. Click on add new discussion to add new topic or to comment on other forum users topic. 16/ 19 1 2 3
