3 DATOURWAY Short history of project development The project idea has been formed gradually in joint preparatory workshops The first draft proposal was completed and discussed in 2007 Search for partners started and transnational meetings were held Expression of Interest was submitted to the South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Programme 1st call in 2008 Our proposal was approved and we were invited to submit a detailed proposal to the 2nd step of the 1st call. Our proposal was approved on the 11th of March Some of our IPA Partners have not been eligible to EU support, and therefore in May we had to re-calculate the finances and change the partnership On the 12th of June 2009 the Monitoring Committee confirmed the approval of our application

5 DATOURWAY Main actions to set up a GIS based information system by pooling and integrating the national, regional and, in part, local statistical data and surveys as well as the available studies and programs; to carry out national targeted analyses and to synthesize as well as evaluate their findings; to elaborate, discuss and by means of stakeholder involvement adopt an integrated strategy for the ecologically viable tourism of the south-eastern Danube corridor; to elaborate on a participatory basis pilot projects for strategic transnational areas like the exquisite landscape of Danube bend (HU-SK); a tri-state (HU- SER-CRO) area expecting economic recovery by means of tourism, a site of urban-rural tourism linkages (RO-BG), comparison of river deltas (RO-IT) and for a greenway all along this section of Danube; to set up a tourism inventory for spreading information to the international public on tourist possibilities along this part of the Danube as well as on services which the riverside municipalities can offer

6 DATOURWAY Objectives of the project The project will be a contribution in the context of the sustainable territorial development of the Danube area and will reflect a common strategic interest in the field of tourism development, by elaborating a set of mutually agreed tourism strategies and implementing different pilot projects tailored to special areas.

7 DATOURWAY Objectives of the project Specific objectives are the following: To remedy the current environmental condition and improve overall quality of life by international cooperation efforts To promote a balanced territorial development in the region, integration of the marginal, less accessible border areas To harmonize and create a balance between urban and rural settlements, and identify potential development drivers To improve local economic conditions by tourism development particularly in the underdeveloped rural regions To exchange expertise and formulate new and transferable approaches in tourism development planning To widen the settlements’ functions through development of tourism and infrastructure To stimulate trans-national cooperation; To coordinate and promote the private and public investments To enhance the role of Danube in the cultural links through revitalization of traditional links To identify the limits of territorial capacity and the rate of environment sensitivity To transfer the good practices to the benefit of the trans-national community To offer recommendations to the partner countries and their governments
