3 The PowerPoint 2003 Screen Outline/Slide tabs Menu bar
Standard toolbar Formatting toolbar Title bar Task pane Slide pane Outline/ Slide pane The PowerPoint 2003 Screen Title bar – shows you are in PPT and displays the file name Outline/Slide Tabs Outline tab – displays text on slides, helpful in organizing content Slides tab – displays thumbnails of slide show Menu bar – shows the commands Default toolbars – Standard and Formatting Standard toolbar – displays the most often used commands Formatting toolbar – contains most common commands for formatting text Task pane –quick and easy access to common tools; automatically changes according to the commands chosen Slide pane – displays current slide Notes pane – notebook Drawing toolbar – contains commands for creating and editing graphics View buttons – use to change views Outline/Slide pane View buttons Drawing toolbar Notes pane

4 Working with Slides – From a Template
Create new presentation File, New Choose Design Template in the New Presentation task pane Scroll to find a template Click on template to select Highlight text and type PowerPoint Slide Master and Transitions Presented by: your name Add new slide and type Slide Master Use the slide master to make global changes to all of the slides in your presentation Working with Slides – From a Template Create new presentation File, New Choose From design template in the New Presentation task pane Scroll to find a template Click on template to select it Highlight text and type (Title) PowerPoint (Content) Slide Master and Transitions Presented by: your name Add new slide Insert, New Slide or Click on New Slide Icon Type the following (Title) Slide Master (Content) Use the slide master to make global changes to all of the slides in your presentation

5 View Normal Slide Sorter Views Normal View
Combination of slide, speaker notes and text or thumbnails. Slide Sorter View Slide Sorter View is great for adding, deleting and moving slides.

6 View Slide Show Views Slide Show View
Used to view presentation in full screen. To exit Slide Show view press Esc.

7 View Notes Page Views Notes Page View
Use Notes Page view to make notes to guide you through a presentation.

8 Slide Master View Slide Master Title Master Placeholders Slide Master
Stores information about a template including fonts styles, placeholder sizes and positions, background design and colors. Slide Master View From the View Menu, select Master, Slide Master -Use Master slides to coordinate the look of your presentation Title Master Like the Slide Master, contains font styles, placeholder sizes and positions, background design and colors. In master view, click on the Title Master thumbnail -Use Title Master slides to coordinate the look of slides that use title slide layouts. Return to Normal View From the View Menu, select Normal Placeholders

Slide Master View Toolbar (icons from left to right) Insert New Slide Master use to add more than one slide master Insert New Title Master use to add more than one title master Delete Master use to remove unwanted slide master or title master Preserve Master prevents PowerPoint from automatically deleting a slide master Rename Master use to name or rename a slide master pair Master Layout indicates which features a slide master contains Close Master View returns to Normal view

10 Header and Footer Slide Master View Toolbar Master Layout
indicates which features a slide master contains Header and Footer - From the Insert Menu, select Slide Number Make selections in the Header and Footer window suitable to your presentation

- From the Format Menu, select Background… - From the Background window, click on the arrow to More Colors… choices and Fill Effects…

Choose desired look-and-feel from the Fill Effects and Colors windows

Highlight text to be formatted Click on icon to make a change to highlighted text Drawing Toolbar To change color of text Click on Font Color icon and select color or Select More Colors Click on desired color Click OK

From the Slide Show Menu select Slide Transition… Slide Transitions Task Pane select transition style Task Pane

Make selections from the Set Up Show window suitable to your presentation

16 Print Screen View the screen you want to copy
Press ‘Print Screen’ key on keyboard Paste into application In PowerPoint Edit, Paste Edit with Picture Toolbar

17 Design Considerations
Keep it simple Contrast = readability Less is more Highlight your content Design Considerations - Keep it simple – busy slides are a distraction - Contrast – background, foreground, text, image colors - Less is more – limit amount of data on each slide - Highlight your content – use images, sound and video to illustrate points

18 Printing Printing Determine exactly what you need before you print.
Always preview before printing. From the File menu select Print
