Graduation Transitions Mrs. Spencer Grade 12’s must complete the grad transitions program in order to graduate Grad Transitions is 4 credits

PERSONAL HEALTH 1. PERSONAL HEALTH WHAT is required?? 80 hours of moderate to vigorous activity, in addition (not including) PE 10 A reflective piece of writing - worksheet with questions will be available on the website

. COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS 2. COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS WHAT is required? 30 hours of work and/or community service And a reflective piece of writing - a worksheet will be available on the website

CAREER & LIFE 3. CAREER & LIFE WHAT is required? The creation of a TRANSITION PLAN: -begin draft in Planning 10 -changes made throughout next two years -completion of plan in Grade 12

Final Step for the 4 credits An exit presentation/interview will be scheduled once the student has completed the three components. The latest this must be completed by is May 30th or else… Updates will appear in the monthly newsletter.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS 48 Credits of Required courses… English 10 English 11 or Communications 11 English 12 or Communications 12 Social Studies 10 Social Studies 11 Science 10 a Science 11 or 12 a Mathematics 10 a Mathematics 11 or 12 Physical Education 10 Planning 10 a Fine Arts and/or Applied Skills 10,11 or 12

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS continued… ELECTIVE COURSES: Students must earn at least 28 elective credits for Grade 10-12 courses. GRADUATION TRANSITIONS: Students must earn 4 credits for Transitions (RM: “requirement met” will appear on the student’s transcript) OVERALL TOTAL: 80 credits Of the 80 credits for graduation, at least 16 must be at the Grade 12 level, including a Grade 12 English course.

Matheson Scholarships - Academic, Athletic, Service, Humanitarian, Fine and Performing Arts, Leadership External Scholarships - Shirley Hayward, Surrey Administrators, Surrey Teachers Association, all University Entrance Scholarships, all Private Scholarships Government Scholarships - Passport to Education (grades 9, 10, 11, 12), Provincial Exam Scholarships, Governor Generals Award ( TBA later in presentation )

Application Information * Applications for L.A. Matheson Scholarships will be available in February / March and will be due in early April. Applications for External Scholarships are available on an ongoing basis. Applications are delivered to the school throughout the year. These applications can be found on the website. Qualifications for these scholarships vary for each award.

What is involved in the Matheson Scholarship Application? Applicants will provide information on the following topics: 1)Extra-curricular Activities 2)Community Involvement 3)Achievements 4)Financial Need 5)Marks

Passport to Education Who can earn a Passport to Education? Available to all students in grade 10 - 12 Given to the top students in each grade Based on marks for all courses and work habits (minimum 6 G’s and no N’s!) Each school receives a finite number of stamps, eg. grade 11 (2005) got 40 stamps How much is each grade worth? Grade 10$250 Grade 11$250 Grade 12$500 That’s $1000.00 in total!!!

Grade 12 Graduation Program Examination Scholarships A student will receive, AUTOMATICALLY, a $1000 scholarship if he or she… Achieves at least a B in English 12 Achieves 86% or higher on each of his or her 3 best grade 12 provincial exams Fulfills all remaining grad requirements A student will receive a $2500 scholarship if he or she… Qualifies to receive a $1000 award Ranks among the top 20 scholarship students (based on his or her percentage score) To be applied to post-secondary costs

Dogwood District Awards Number of awards increased from 500 to 3000 in province Excellence in chosen non-academic field Superior achievement in Fine Arts, Applied Skills, Physical Activity and second languages May include criteria: attendance, punctuality, work habits and cooperation $500 cheque $500 voucher for post-secondary Applications accepted from nominated students

APPRENTICESHIP SCHOLARSHIP $1000 Be registered with the Industry Training Authority C+ average in grade 12 courses 16 credits of paid workplace training Apply within one year of graduation Continue working for six months after graduation

Hidden Apprenticeships See Mr. Deluca or Ms. Wilson in the Career Centre 120 hours of apprenticeship work is equal to a 4 credit course. A student may earn up to 4 - 4 credit courses towards graduation requirements
