3. 3 Database Database on tens of thousands of houses in Ohio for 1998-1999, or Put together, and made available by David Brasington of the University of Cincinnati. I’m providing information on the disks I am handing out. If we look at the database, we see the possibility for several types of analyses.

4. 4 Types of Analyses 1.Look at determinants of house values. 2.Look at the determinants of school expenditures. 3.Look at the determinants of school productivity. 4.Look at capitalization of tax rates and school quality. 5.Others that YOU may think of.

5. 5 The Plan First Deliverable – Due Thursday, March 26 PowerPoint Outline –12-14 slide outline of what you plan to do. Aim – 1 slide Brief Literature Review – 1 slide/source – up to 6 slides Methods – 3-4 slides Expected findings – 2-3 slides

6. 6 The Plan Second Deliverable – Due Thursday, April 23 –Research Paper –15-25 pages 12 point type 1 inch margins Double spaced –Organized as follows: Aims; Brief Literature Summary; Data; Methods; Findings; Interpretation; Conclusion.

7. 7 Research At least Ten (10) outside sources. –No Wikipedia! –No text sources! It would be nice for the article to be potentially publishable in a place like the Journal of Urban Economics, Urban Studies, or some place like that.

8. 8 Criteria for Grading Quality of analysis – Need not be sophisticated (OLS may turn out to be OK) but MUST be right. Quality of writing – Bad spelling, bad grammar, bad organization  bad grade. Plagiarism  0.
