Mini-Baja Advisory Presentation April 27, 2007 Quentin Holmes Chris Meyer

Introduction  Overview of Competition Design Conditions Design Conditions Grading Criteria Grading Criteria  Our Participation  Drawings and Analysis  Timeline  Costs

Design Conditions  Overall length must be a maximum of 108”  Overall width must be a maximum of 64”  Must have 4 or more wheels not in a straight line  Must be capable of carrying one person 6’3” tall and weighing 250 lbs.  Driver must be able to exit on either side of the vehicle within 5 seconds  The only engine allowed is a Briggs & Stratton 10 hp OHV Intek Model 205432

Grading Criteria:  Cost Report  Design Analysis  Acceleration  Braking  Traction  Land Maneuverability  Specialty Events  Endurance Race

What we do  Bring knowledge of mechanical systems  Fluent with engineering software  Ability to analyze components  Load testing  Laboratory resources  Manufacturing abilities

Manufacturing Methods  Primarily mandrel bent tubing with mig welded joints  Heim joint inserts into tubing with mig welded joints  End mill used to cut keyways in drive shafts  Water jet used to cut out all flat brackets and plates

Manufacturing Plan – Lower Frame   Cut tubes to length   Cut ends at a 45* angle   Bend sides to specified dimensions   Tack weld all tubes into place   Measure to assure the dimensions are correct   Mig weld all joints to finalize assembly
