2 Donald Sinta Donald Sinta was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 16th, 1937 It was his father that made Sinta pick up an instrument at age 8, of which he gave Donald the choice of either saxophone or clarinet.

3 Early Saxophone Years Sinta joined the All-City Boys Band in Detroit, at age 9 At 12, he played on a public music school program, which was aired on the radio in 1949. He would later study under Larry Teal the Professor of Saxophone and the University of Michigan seen on the left

4 Awards Sinta was awarded the Arthur Thurnau Professorship, an award for outstanding instruction at the undergraduate level The award is quite an accomplish and is given to a handful of professors at the University of Michigan each year

5 Recordings He can be heard on William Walton’s Facade with the Lincoln Center Chamber Players George Crumb’s Quest with Speculum Musicale of New York City And his recording of American Music for the Saxophone

7 Career-continued He is the director of the All-State Program at Interlochen and the Michigan Youth Ensembles Program He served on the faculties of the Hartt School of Music and Ithaca Currently he teaches at The University of Michigan, where he has been employed since replacing Larry Teal in 1974

8 Fred Hemke A Native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin he first studied at Wisconsin State College-Milwaukee where he received a degree in music education in 1953 In 1955 he studied under Marcel Mule Finally in 1975 he received a doctoral degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison

9 Awards In 1956 Hemke was the first American to receive the Premiere Prix du Saxophone at the Paris Conservatory He has received the Kappa Kappa Psi “Distinguished Service to Music” award

10 Recordings and Publications
Hemke has been featured in many recordings, his solo works include The American Saxophone, Music for Tenor Saxophone, and Simple Gifts He has also published a book entitled The Early History of the Saxophone, but is probably most know for his reeds

11 Career Hemke has been the Professor of Saxophone and Northwestern University since 1962 He is also an artist-clinician for the Selmer company, a well know producer of saxophones

12 Eugene Rousseau Born in 1932 Eugene is an American Saxophonist who mainly plays the alto and Soprano Saxophones He studied with Marcel Mule at the Paris Conservatory in 1962

14 Publications He has written a book entitled Marcel Mule: His Life and the Saxophone He has recorded a video called Steps to Excellence Is most know for his Rousseau mouthpieces

15 Career Taught at the University of Indiana for 36 years, where he taught Rich Shanklin the current professor of saxophone at The University of Akron Rousseau is currently the Professor of Saxophone at the University of Minnesota Rousseau is also a consultant for the Yamaha corporation
