How Computers Are Preserving History Archaeological sites and artifacts (even though they are still decaying)

Outline  Introduction - What Archaeologists Do… - What Computers Hold for Future Cultures… Cultures… - Archaeologists Do This Why???  Conclusion

Introduction  With the new age technologies we are able to preserve and capture the artifacts while they are still in good conditions.  This is a picture of the Mummy of Wedjahor.  He was found in 1998 and this picture was taken then.  His discovery has now been documented not only in books but now also on the Internet for all to be able to see and learn.  http://www.newton.cam.ac.uk/egypt/tt99/finds/mummy.html

What Archaeologists Do…  The Archaeologists document their finds by writing about and taking photographs of the artifacts that they find at a site.  The writings tell what, where, and when things were found at the site.  The photographs are used to show what the artifact looks like after it’s discovered.  Photographs also can show you what the artifact looked like before it was removed from the ground after the initial discovery.

What Computers Hold for Future Cultures…  Computers are able to allow many people access to the various artifacts and writings that the Archaeologists put on the Web.  With such an exciting field you could have a very large web site to show to the entire world of people.  With these large web sites it allows easier and faster access to the materials than trying to get the materials from numerous books.  Also since it is on the Web our children and our children’s children will be able to see the artifacts and writings that have been discovered in these past years even after they have decayed away.  The future people of the world will be able to see and learn from the artifacts of the past to learn about the artifacts of their time.  From the past artifacts the people of the world will have help in studying the artifacts in their time, our future.

Archaeologists Do This Why???  Another aspect of computers preserving the artifacts and writings of the Archaeologists is…  That it shows the incentive of the Archaeologist’s to let the world know what they have discovered and have there names put in the history books.  But they also want, besides the world wide recognition, to be able to have an exciting adventure in the field sites looking for the artifacts that could one day make them renowned around the world.

Conclusion…  How computers keep the past present for future generations… –Computers are a huge part of the world’s future so by Archaeologists putting their findings on the World Web their artifacts and writings will be available for all to see for many generations to come. –The future generations will use these findings of today’s Archaeologists to be able to help the future generation Archaeologists to be able to put their findings together and how to be able to display them properly. –With the help of our Archaeologists today the future generations will not forget their past or the generations of their past.  If computers could preserve our past for the future generations for only one reason I believe it would be for…. –That everyone in the world would be able to see and study all the materials, artifacts, and writings that the Archaeologists have discovered and wrote about in their journals and such writing materials.
