OBJECTIVE: Yo u will work in a group to create an advertising campaign for a product using at least 3 different propaganda techniques and using multiple types of media for a product. Because groups will be self-selected, all group members will receive one grade. In other words...the same grade will be given to all members of your group!

STEP 1: Select your product Af ter selecting your group, you will view several slides containing a variety of products. Based on your groups order, you will select a product that will be used for your advertising campaign.

STEP 2: Name your product Yo ur group must come up with a clever name, and catchy slogan for your product. You must also research possible manufacturers and select one that could make this product.

STEP 3: Create the packaging Yo ur group must create the packaging for your product - an actual box that could be used to sell this product. It must contain all pertinent information - name and picture of product, manufacturer, catchy slogan, information about product, how to use product, etc.

STEP 4: Decide on 3 propaganda techniques Your group should review the propaganda techniques (snob appeal, bandwagon, name calling and stereotype) we have studied throughout the course of this unit, and select 3 different ones that will be used to sell your product.

STEP 5: Decide on celebrity Yo ur group should research possible celebrities and select one that would be a good endorser / face for your product. Make logical connections here. What qualifications does this person have to endorse / help sell your product? You will talk about your celebrity during your pitch.

STEP 6: Create a billboard Your group must create a billboard (on posterboard) using one of the propaganda techniques. This should be large, colorful and contain all pertinent information, and should be accompanied by a 4-5 sentence typed paragraph that identifies the propaganda technique chosen, elaborates on how this was demonstrated in your billboard, and explains how this will appeal to your target audience.

STEP 7: Create a magazine ad Your group must create a magazine advertisement (on computer paper) using another different propaganda technique. This should be large, colorful and contain all pertinent information, and should be accompanied by a 4-5 sentence typed paragraph that identifies the propaganda technique chosen, elaborates on how this was demonstrated in your billboard, and explains how this will appeal to your target audience.

STEP 8: Create a commercial Yo ur group must create a commercial (either pre-recorded or performed live) using another different propaganda technique. This can contain all or some members of the group, and can incorporate visuals, music, etc. This should be accompanied by a 4-5 sentence typed paragraph that identifies the propaganda technique chosen, elaborates on how this was demonstrated in your billboard, and explains how this will appeal to your target audience.

STEP 9: Pitch it! EVERYONE in your group must participate in the pitch of your product. You will first discuss the fundamentals of your product (name, who makes it, what it does, etc.) and which celebrity you chose to represent your product and why he / she is a good fit. Then each member will present their contribution by presenting the billboard, magazine advertisement and commercial.

STEP 10: Revel in your success Yo u did it! Congratulations! You are now ready to invent and market your own ingenious, multi- billion dollar product!

Now go forth and be fruitful! Di vide the work amongst your group members and start planning what you will do. You will be given Thursday February 26th, Monday February 2nd and Tuesday February 3rd to work on this in class. What you do not finish in class must be done on your own. Presentations will begin on Wednesday February 4th and run through to Thursday February 5th. We will spend any time left over on Thursday to review for the propaganda test, which will be on Friday March 6th. (see calendars on next slides)
