1 TIQA Writing My grandmother had an ugly dog, TIQA. Remembering this name, will help you write an awesome paragraph!

2 Topic Sentence Normally the first sentence of your paragraph!
It tells the reader exactly what the paragraph is about. Ex’s: Some people feel that beauty is a prerequisite for true love—a lover must believe that their significant other is the most beautiful person on the face of the Earth, but Shakespeare shows us this is not true.

3 Introduction The introduction sentences summarize what is happening in the story or stories you are writing about. Ex: Shakespeare shows us two people with different opinions in his poem, Sonnet 130, and in Act II, scene i of Romeo and Juliet. In Act II, scene i he shows Romeo showering Juliet with his affection.

4 Quote Steal some words from the play short story or poem that you are analyzing. When Romeo proclaims, “But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the East and Juliet is the sun!” he is telling the audience that she is beautiful (1023). Your Opinions!

5 Analysis Include your opinions after the quote—this is your analysis
Ex: Romeo drones on and on about how fair and lovely Juliet is. He constantly reminds his reader that she is the most beautiful woman in the world.

6 Transition-- Transition to discussing a second example and quote for the paragraph. Ex: Yet, it seems that Shakespeare himself does not agree with Romeo.

7 Introduce Describe the new situation after you have transitioned!
In Sonnet 130, Shakespeare shows us a man that does not believe his lover is beautiful.

8 Quote Steal the words from the literature again!
If he felt she was beautiful, he would not have written, “My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun; Coral is far more red than her lips,” (1-2).

9 Analysis Include your opinions again
Ex: This shows us that the man believes his lover is hideous, yet he says that his love is true anyway.
