6 GMS SCHOOL DAY 8:35-3:45 daily Tues. – Fri. Parents are requested to drop off students between 8:00-8:25 a.m. Car traffic is prohibited from the front parking lot due to safety concerns, from 8:00-8:30 and from 3:00-3:45. Students must be signed in and out at the main office if leaving or arriving during the school day.

7 LATE ARRIVAL GMS school day will be 9:15-3:45 on the first day of the week.

8 TARDY POLICY Tardies 1-3: Teacher discretion/Informing REACH teacher/ Student writes letter home Tardy 4: Teacher Contact Home Tardy 5: After School Detention (assigned by administrator) Tardy 6: After School Detention (assigned by administrator) Tardy 7: Friday School (assigned by administrator) Tardy 8: Friday School (assigned by administrator) Tardy 9: Removal of passing period or other consequence to be determinded by administrator Tardies consequences are per class. Tardies start back at 0 each trimester.

9 SCHOOL NURSE- Medications GMS has one full time nurse and one part- time nurse. The clinic is located on the first floor beside the athletic office. If your child needs to take prescription or over-the- counter medications at school, written parent permission is needed. Please complete form 5330- F1. This is available in the health clinic or at: http://www.goshenschools.org/parents-students/health-services/ Medications must be sent in their original container and will be given according to the label.

10 SCHOOL NURSE Illness and School Physicals Students who become ill at school must report to the school nurse. Generally we will treat as needed and the student will return to class. If a student is too ill to remain in school, a parent will be contacted. Please make sure contact numbers are up to date. Students must go through the health clinic. They can not call or text you on their own. School Physicals (green form) need to be completed for 6 th grade entrance. These are different than the yellow athletic form. Please return to the school nurse by August 2013.

11 IMMUNIZATIONS New guidelines for immunizations started in 2010. The vaccines added for grades 6-12 are: –Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and acel.pertussis) – MCV4 Menactra (meningococcal) – 2 nd Varicella (chickenpox) (or date of disease) Students need to have completed all required vaccines to attend Goshen Middle School. Next fall, they may be excluded if these vaccines are incomplete. Please call the school nurse with any questions.

12 SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER Officer Tommy Steele is at GMS full-time. He keeps GMS safe. He also assists in the classrooms.

17 ADVISORY PERIOD Advisory occurs one day every 5 weeks. School counselors plan a variety of activities to help students achieve success academically and socially.

18 PBS (Positive Behavior Support) Preventive approach to student discipline Profound emphasis on what is expected Teaches students the 5 Points of Pride -Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Productivity, Courage

19 ID CARDS / LUNCHES All students at GMS are required to wear their ID card at all times. The ID card also accesses the student’s lunch account. Money may be deposited weekly, monthly, or by trimester into your child’s lunch account. The ID card is also required to check out books from the media center. If lost, replacement cost is $1.00

23 CHEERLEADING Football cheerleading tryouts are held in April or May of the 6th grade year for the 7 th grade football season. An athletic physical and Emergency Medical Form is required for all cheerleaders.

24 SPORTS PHYSICALS Physicals are needed for: Cross country Wrestling Swimming Soccer Golf Physicals are not needed for: 6 th Track 6 th Boys Basketball 6 th Girls Basketball 6 th Volleyball 6 th Cheerleading

25 SCHOOL/SPORTS PHYSICALS Incoming 6 th graders must have a school physical completed by a physician. If your child would like to participate in sports at GMS, an athletic physical (dated after April 1) and a Code of Conduct/Emergency Medical Release form is also required. Physical forms will be mailed home this summer.

26 E-MAIL E-mail your child’s teacher. Most addresses use the first letter of the teacher’s first name with the teacher’s last name. These can be found in your parent handbook and on our website. Ex: Jeromy Sheets jsheets@goshenschools.org

27 BUS INFORMATION Contact Central Office Transportation at 533-7176 You will only need to give them your address to arrange a bus.

28 REGISTRATION If your student attends one of the following elementary schools - you do not need to register them for the 2015-2016 school year: ChamberlainPrairie View ChandlerWaterford ModelWest Goshen Parkside

30 Back to School night This is an opportunity to visit GMS. Visit Classrooms Meet their teachers Students are encouraged to attend August 4 th 6-7:30 pm

31 First Day of School Date: August 6, 2015 All 6 th grade will report to the auditorium. They will get their schedule and will be guided by their teacher.
