37 Copyright © 2004 Best Customer Solutions, Inc. 37 CONCLUSIONS The mean CPU utilization increase between OS/390 V2.10 & z/OS V1.4 is 1.26%, 1.38% for V1.4.2, 1.56% for V1.5 –For 31-bit to 31-bit or 64-bit to 64-bit –z/OS V1.6 only requires.5% more The mean CPU increase between OS/390 V2.10 & z/OS V1.4 is 4.4%, 4.5% for V1.4.2, 4.76% for V1.5, 3.6% for V1.6 –For ESA mode/31-bit to zArchitecture/64-bit migration The CPU increase between z/OS V1.2 & V1.4 through V1.5 is between.4% and.7%, V1.6 is actually a decrease of.34% –The increase between V1.4 & V1.5 is.34%, V1.6 is a.8% decrease Batch processing appears to benefit the most from z/OS V1.6 In zArchitecture/64-bit mode, OS/390 requires the least storage (35M), z/OS V1.2, V1.4, & V1.4.2 the most (42M), and V1.5/ V1.6 requires marginally more than OS/390 V2.10 (37M) z/OS V1.6 is the best performing z/OS release

48 Copyright © 2004 Best Customer Solutions, Inc. 48 BENCHMARK CONCLUSIONS z/OS V1.4 CS performance is superior to OS/390 V2.10 CS –RR performance is significantly better –CRR performance is marginally better –STR performance is noticeably better –Single session FTP server gains came with z/OS V1.2 CS –Multi-session FTP server gains came with z/OS V1.4 CS –z/OS V1.2 CS also offers improvements with CLAW packing Multiple datagrams in a single channel frame Improvements were also made regarding CISCO 7200/7500 routers Results: throughput improved 46.73%, CPU/KB is reduced 13.34% –z/OS V1.4 CS improves performance for inbound data 17.25% reduction in CPU cost per kilobyte –z/OS V1.4 CS Bind V9.2 performs significantly better than V9.1 186% improvement in trans/sec or more, depending on threads 44% or greater reduction in CPU per transaction –The performance impact of IP V6 is negligible
