LSV2 Autonomous Chargers Design Team: (from the left) Branden Carpenter Wayne Romine Jon Stoker Dr. Hess (Advisor) Maggie Richardson

 Use existing autonomous controls of chargers  Implement optimized charge profiles  Implement a GUI IAW previous profiles  Charging technician to monitor, but not expected to interfere with the charge 2

 RS 232/485  Previous Attempts  Board Operations / Capabilities  SCPI ( Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments)  Schematic  Board V. 5  Components not installed on our version shown on interface chard layout graphic 3

5 No GPIB Header PWR Supply J4: RS- 232/485 Support For GPIB

 Purchased a serial communications board produced by MOXA  Determined the required connections to the charger’s interface card  Connected to an individual interface card that is used inside the chargers  Received a positive communications response  RS-485 => 6 GND P5 to J4P7 Data- P4 to J4P5 Data+ P3 to J4P4

 Communicate with the chargers using the RS 485 or RS 232 ports on the ICS 4861 board currently installed within the chargers  Connect the ICS 4861 boards to the PC using a Moxa CP-118EL serial board  Create a simple GUI to convert the SCPI commands programmed into ICS 4861 board into an easily used touch screen program 7

 Able to control chargers from single work station  Control includes (for two chargers):  Remote charger startup and shutdown  Query and display:  output current/voltage  Front panel indications  Ability to change output levels 8

 Wiring diagram 9 PC Chargers Comm Cards Touch Screen MOXA Card

 MOXA CP-118EL  $378.13  MOXA CBL-M68M9x8- 100  $53.50  DB9 Cables  50ft: $9.55*8 = $76.40  100ft: $21.99*8 = $175.92  0.100” Socket  10pin: $0.39*10 = $3.90  Termination Crimp: $4.13/50units  U of I Budget Number : KKK188  Available Funds: $767  Total Cost  $516.06  $615.58  Touchscreen  Screen: $556.87  Mounting hardware: $144..05 10

 Detailed installation instructions  All necessary parts for installation  Moxa CP-118EL serial board  Requires a PCI express slot on motherboard  Connection wires  Touch screen display unit  Software package to control the system 11

 See Gantt Chart 12

Code program with the ability to: 1. Configure 4861 board with network address. (Used for RS 485 multi-drop) 2. Manually send SPCI commands 3. Change voltage/voltage trigger 4. Change current/current trigger 5. Stop charger. 6. Query voltage and current from charger.
