4 Imager State of the Lab Report / December 20014 Students and Funded Research Projects provide funding to maintain Imager NSERC individual research grants (all faculty) NSERC strategic grants (two currently) (new) IRIS NCE “transparancy” project (Karon) (new) IRIS NCE Acme project (Wolfgang) (new) Nissan projects (Ron) CFI equipment (Michiel, Karon, and Ron) Research only gets done with students!

5 Imager State of the Lab Report / December 20015 Publishing All of Our Work Publish in a variety of venues –conferences –Journals –ASI Exchange Make sure the lab is well recognized as –a top research group in the field(s) –a good place to work and learn

6 Imager State of the Lab Report / December 20016 Faculty Recruiting Join in departmental recruiting –attend recruiting talks –meet with candidates (lunches and demos) –fill out recruiting forms http://www.cs.ubc.ca/people/recruiting/ Discuss candidates within Imager –inform recruiting committee reps

7 Imager State of the Lab Report / December 20017 Graduate Student Recruiting Establish targets for new admissions –how many PhD/MSc students in the lab? –what areas have capacity/need? Cultivate good UBC CS undergrads –TAs can identify good students in courses –NSERC USRA (summer students) Imager open house in February

8 Imager State of the Lab Report / December 20018 Space Requirements Space is about to become scarce –current faculty (Michiel, Brian, Karon?) –new faculty this year and next one hire in graphics and one in HCI? new director for MAGIC? New research requires more lab space experiment room in FSC 2331 digital video editing suite expanding?
