LHU Coudersport at Cole Memorial Hospital Lock Haven University’s beautiful Coudersport Campus is situated in the heart of Potter County within Cole Memorial Hospital and is about 2 hours north of Lock Haven’s main campus. Cole Memorial is a busy, 25 bed Critical Access hospital that acts as a medical home for the rural, medically underserved area that is known as Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier. The campus offers all the same “state of the art” technology as the other campuses, but unique to Coudersport, is that didactic year students are afforded the opportunity to go into the hospital to view deliveries, c - sections, bone marrow harvesting, emergency surgeries, colonoscopies, wound clinic procedures, cardiac stress tests, echocardiograms, EKGs and can even spend time in the ER, if they desire. While we do not have a meal plan at the Coudersport Campus, students receive a large discount on meals at the hospital cafeteria which boasts a salad bar, hot food entrees, and a large drink and dessert selection. The cost of a full meal is usually $3 - $4. Covered in the students’ tuition is a membership to the Cole Memorial Wellness Center which is a fully equipped gym. Housing is not provided by the University but we do work closely with our local partners to provide a list of very affordable housing. The cost of living in Coudersport is low and the area is somewhat remote. It is surrounded by natural beauty and state parks and if you would like a distraction free study environment (because you will be doing a lot of that) and enjoy hiking, fishing, hunting and camping, this is the place for you.

3. Pam Ruane is the Coudersport Campus Coordinator and is a Lock Haven University graduate x 2 having graduated the first time with a Pre-Med degree in 1991 and the second time from LHU’s PA Program in 2010. Pam also holds a PhD in Natural Medicine and Naturopathy and is a Master Herbalist but chose to pursue a degree in Health Science to become a Physician Assistant because she wanted to meld the worlds of naturopathic and allopathic medicine and found that becoming a PA was the best way to accomplish this. She has spent the last 3 years as a PA working in medically underserved areas, the last one being in South Jersey where she worked in a community health clinic where she provided primary care to migrant workers, uninsured patients, and their families. She lives in Coudersport, is married and is a Mom to 2 boys, ages 5 and 8 and, when not at the campus, spends much of her time in the local forests wild crafting herbal remedies and educating the public about herbal medicine and its applications.
