2  ÇEVKO Foundation is a non-profit organization established, on November 1st, 1991, by 14 leading industrial companies in Turkey. It was created in order to contribute to the establishment of a sustainable recovery system in Turkey, while working in cooperation with the industry, municipal authorities, and consumers.  ÇEVKO Foundation adopted the principles of “Integrated Waste Management” while creating its objectives. ÇEVKO Foundation has been working towards building the necessary systems for the collection and recovery of glass, metal, plastic, composite, and paper/cardboard packaging waste in a hygienic and effective manner. In line with the principles of “Integrated Waste Management”, ÇEVKO Foundation gives the principal responsibility to the industry, municipal administrations, and consumers.

3  In 2002, ÇEVKO Foundation gained the right to use the international “Green Dot,” trademark in Turkey, which led to ÇEVKO Foundation joining the European organization PRO Europe, an organization composed of enterprises that use the Green Dot trademark in the EU.  ÇEVKO Foundation Economic Operation was declared, in 2005, as the Authorized Recovery Organization by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry within the framework of the “Regulation on the Control of Packaging Waste.” Since 2005, fillers, packers, importers, i.e. companies selling packaged products in the Turkish market, have been transferring their recycling obligations to the ÇEVKO Foundation.

4  Every day, we become more industrialized and our population grows. As this happens, we also increase the amount we consume, increasing our waste as well. The collection, transport, and disposal of domestic waste involve significant positive environmental effects.  We collect waste at home in bags or bins and dispose of them in containers on the street. In Turkey, packaging waste constitutes 15% in weight and 35% in volume of all waste resulting from consumption that is sent to storage areas for disposal.  The picture below summarizes the process from collection to disposal of domestic waste.
