2 After the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorate in 1914,the country became a British Colony. All government activities were purely British under the rule of Queen Elizabeth II of England. By 1944, Herbert Macauley and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe formed a political party called the National Council of Nigeria and Cameroon (N.C.N.C). Dr. Herbert Macauley was the father of Nationalism or Nationalist Movement in Nigeria.

5 Together with other Nigerians, they were able to achieve self rule (freedom) from the colonial masters. Nationalist Leaders in Nigeria include: 1. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe 2. Chief Obafemi Awolowo. 3.
