2 Prepositions A Prepositional Phrase begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun Prepositional Phrases will NOT be the subject or verb of the sentence. after dinner – after is the preposition. --- dinner is the object of the preposition. after dinner is the prepositional phrase.

3 List of Prepositions about, above, across, after, against, along, amid, among, around, at, atop before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond, but (when it means except), by concerning, down, during, except, for, from in, inside, into, like, near, of, off, on, onto, out, outside, over, past regarding, since, through, throughout, to, toward under, underneath, until, up, upon, With, within, without

4 Cross out the prepositional phrases
The shoppers went into the store. A blender fell on the floor. He stepped behind the door. The vacationers went to Disneyland.

5 Cross out the prepositional phrases

6 Underline the Subject of the sentence once.
Ask yourself “Who or what is this sentence about?” The shoppers went into the store. A blender fell on the floor. He stepped behind the door. The vacationers went to Disneyland.

7 Underline the verb twice
Ask yourself “What happened or What is? in this sentence. The shoppers went into the store. A blender fell on the floor. He stepped behind the door. The vacationers went to Disneyland.

8 Cross out Prep Phrases then underline subject 1x, and verb 2x
After school we walked to the library. Mary sits behind you in science class. The plane flew above the clouds. Jane lives across the street from me. Down the road galloped the horse.

14 Compound Object of the Preposition
The noun or pronoun following the preposition is called the object of the preposition. Sometimes the preposition will have compound objects. This means that there will be two or more nouns or pronouns following the preposition. Examples: to the store and the bank with John and me
