Current Event #2 2. “Gold Rush: Giant Gold Nugget Found in Sierra Mountains in July, Sales at Auction in San Francisco.” Six pound Butte Nugget found in secret location sells for $450,000; buyer will remain anonymous. It is the biggest nugget found in modern times in California’s historic Gold Country (Butte County)

4. Current Event #3 3. “Evolutionary Change? Pope Francis says Big Bang Theory does not Contradict a Divine Creator.” He says evolution in nature is part of God’s plan to create things that develop according to natural laws. Pope said that in the beginning, God was neither a magician, nor was the world a work of chaos

Current Event #4 4. “Ancient Maya Mass Grave in Mexico Yields Dozens of Dismembered and Decapitated Bodies.” Archaeological evidence found in city of Uxul backs violent scenes depicted in Maya art & glyphs. Hatchet marks indicate victims were decapitated and most of lower jaws separated from heads

Current Event #5 5. “ Halloween History: Martin Luther Posted the 95 Theses on 10/31/1517 Starting Protestant Reformation. ” Luther challenged the selling of indulgences which resulted in his excommunication from Catholic Church. Pope Leo X (Lorenzo Medici’s son) was trying to raise money to refurbish St. Peter’s Basilica Leo X
