2 Students will use appropriate phrases and simple sentences with or without support to describe family, friends, school, and interests. Students will use communication strategies to initiate and sustain dialogue. Students will use their knowledge of phonics to find words based on a limited amount of letter. Students will learn to use “I” Language Targets

3 Class Outline 1.Review last class. 2.Outline class targets and structure. 3.Discuss writer’s workshop, develop a plan for writing, and write (L1 and L2). 4.Word Work (16 Box) 5.The cooperative learning portion will be accessed through the blog. 6.Assess our performance and our goals.

4 Class Targets and Mini-Lesson Writer’s or Reader’s Workshop Grammar/Vocabulary Cooperative Learning Activity Learning Reflection Typical Class Format

5 Writer’s Workshop Write in your journals for approximately 15 minutes (L1 or L2), or continue to search for ideas and reason for write.

6 Make as many words as possible, using only these letters. All the letters of your words must attach. For example, pit is good, but pen is not. You have 6 minutes to find as many words as possible. Word Work - 16 Box

7 Thee best way to accomplish giving and receiving criticism effectively is to use "I"language. "I" language is when you own up to your feelings and your reactions to them. For example: 1. "You hurt my feelings," one could say, "My feelings are hurt because of some of the things you said”. 2."You make me look stupid" instead, one should say, "I don't look as good because you need some help on your project.” “I” Language Cooperative Learning

8 "I" language is helpful because it simply states how the person feels and does not cast blame on any specific person. Leaving the blame out of a conversation helps promote a discussion rather than an outright argument. The other person will not feel defensive if the blame is not cast on them but is stated in a way that invites a solution. When someone feels threatened, they will typically think and speak irrationally trying to defend themselves instead of trying to solve the situation. Using "I"language will typically surpass these situations and provide for a provincial discussion. “I” Language Cooperative Learning

11 Please remind the students to fill out the daily reflection section in their binders. It should be in their “tracking” sections. Daily Reflection
