Choice of Projects? 1.Siavonga Fishing Camp School – Brand new school for 5 – 7 year olds 2.Siavonga Skills Training Workshop – for 17 – 20 year olds 3.Additional Classrooms for the Church – for ages 10 – 14 year olds 4.Rebuild community school at Zalaunga from straw classrooms to brick classrooms

Siavonga Town Centre

The Project We have chosen the Siavonga Fishing Camp School for the project. This involves creating and building a NEW school. What we are hoping to provide : 1. A double classroom block, with store and office 2. An additional small room on the classroom block, to be used for visiting medical personnel. 3. Toilets 4. A water bore hole 5. A double teachers accommodation block

The Project Reasons for the project: - 1.The fishing village is home to around 300 families 2.Currently, the nearest primary school is around 8km’s away. All children aged 5 – 14 have to walk this distance to school everyday. The very young children usually do not make it to school as it is too far, and end up playing on the roadside. 3.The new school is to provide children aged 5 – 7 with their first three years of education, local to the village. 4.The school is to be considered as a community resource, providing a venue facility, and a place for vaccinations, baby weighing and other medical checks to be located. 5.The village has no clean water supply, and they have to collect their dirty water from the lake, which involves around a 150mtr climb back to the village.

The Project Project Challenges: - 1.Land Title – Land is owned by the council, but the title has to be assigned to the Education Department. 2.New Local Project Manager – Maurice is leaving, but Anita is picking up the challenge. 3.Camping – We have been given permission to camp on some land just up from the school (but it is not next door). 4.Community Involvement – For the project to succeed, the fishing camp will need to be very involved in some of the preparation work. 5.Costs – Early Estimates 1.Double Classrooms block – 85M Kwa - £11.3K 2.Toilet Block – 15MKwa - £2K 3.Water Bore Hole - $3K - £2.0K 4.Teachers Accommodation – 80M Kwa - £10.7K Total of £26,000 – Very early estimate However, possibility of Water Bore Hole being done by others 6.Provision of Teachers – Education Department has provisionally said they will supply
