1 VICTORIA’S S.E.N. Department The SEN Department provides support to our teachers with special needs students (with or without a disability) to ensure their participation, inclusion and educational achievement.

2 “A student has special educational needs when he/she has more difficulty than other students to learn what is part of the curriculum for his/her age. It may be due to several causes: physical, difficulties within the family environment or educational needs not being met appropriately. In order to compensate for these difficulties, the student may need significant physical and/or curricular adaptations in several areas”. 1 1 (CNREE, Consejo Nacional de Rehabilitación y Educación Especial. Costa Rica, 1992, pág. 20) “A student has special educational needs when he/she has more difficulty than other students to learn what is part of the curriculum for his/her age. 4 Educational Inclusion “Educational inclusion is the attention students with special educational needs or disabilities receive. It implies a change in a school as a whole and, contrary to what most people believe, it benefits other students and the community in general. It influences the school’s organisation, teacher training, enriches teaching practices and promotes values such as solidarity and respect”. 3 3 (“Glosario de Educación Especial”/ Programa de Fortalecimiento de la Educación Especial y de la Integración Educativa/ SEB – SEP (www.educacionespecial.sep.gob.mx)
