11 Background Fall 2005  DMACC and ISU presidents met to discuss partnerships  Agreement written, revised, and presented to academic leaders for approval Spring 2006  Formal agreement signed  Implementation of necessary systems components; policies created or further defined as needed Summer 2006  Application available June 1  First students accepted a few weeks later Fall 2006  APP officially begins its first semester  First DMACC students take advantage of APP benefits— both social and academic  “Getting Started” event on September 13, 2006  Formal APP agreement signed with Iowa Valley Community College District in December 2006 Spring 2007  First APP participants enrolled at Iowa State  Negotiations with NIACC for third APP agreement

15 APP Getting Started September 2006 APP Participants must: Remain enrolled at DMACC in a major or course work appropriate for transfer to the desired program at Iowa State. Consult with an Iowa State academic adviser and meet with a DMACC educational adviser each semester prior to registration to select the appropriate course work. Consult with DMACC and Iowa State advisers before altering a previously agreed upon course schedule. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. No later than one semester prior to transfer (excluding summer), complete and submit an Intent to Enroll form to the Iowa State Office of Admissions. The $30 application fee will be required when the Intent to Enroll is submitted. Prior to transfer, earn or maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA in all college course work attempted. Students planning to transfer with fewer than 24 academic credits must meet Iowa State freshman admissions requirements and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA in all college course work attempted. The 2.0 cumulative GPA is current transfer policy and does not assure acceptance into all programs.

16 APP Getting Started September 2006 APP Application Process 1. Apply for admission to and enroll at DMACC as a degree- seeking student. 2. Following admission to DMACC, meet with a DMACC educational adviser to discuss whether APP is a good fit. 3. Obtain an APP application from a DMACC educational adviser. (APP applications are only available from a DMACC educational adviser.) 4. Complete the APP application and return it to the DMACC Admissions Processing office. 5. Have transcripts sent to Iowa State from all institutions where college level coursework has been attempted, including coursework taken while still enrolled in high school. ( Send transcripts to 100 Alumni Hall, Ames, IA 50011.) 6. Receive notification and information about “next steps” from Iowa State University.

17 APP Getting Started September 2006 APP Eligibility Requirements Students must be enrolled at or accepted to DMACC in a program leading to transfer. Students who have attempted DMACC coursework must have a cumulative DMACC GPA of 2.0 or better. Current or former Iowa State University students including students enrolled in off-campus programs or the Intensive English Program are not eligible unless the course work was attempted prior to high school graduation, during the summer immediately following graduation from high school, or as part of the DMACC-ISU cross-enrollment agreement.

18 APP Getting Started September 2006 DMACC APP – A Strong Start New for Fall 2006 Goal was 25-50 As of January, 2007  205 admitted to the program  10 students living in university housing

19 APP Getting Started September 2006 Transfer Planning An Iowa State academic adviser and a DMACC educational adviser work with students to plan course work. Iowa State maintains a course equivalency guide for DMACC and other Iowa community colleges. The course equivalency guide lists the community college courses alongside the Iowa State equivalent courses.

24 APP Getting Started September 2006 Transferring to Iowa State No later than the final semester at DMACC (excluding summer), students should complete and submit the Intent to Enroll form to Iowa State University. Provided the student meets Iowa State’s admission requirements, s/he will be formally admitted to Iowa State University.

27 APP Getting Started September 2006 Living on Campus Contact the Department of Residence at 800 854-9050 and request a paper contract. DMACC students may live in any housing area for which they meet eligibility requirements.* *Iowa State University and Des Moines Area Community College do not operate on the same academic calendar. When your students have questions about when particular housing options are open and closed, contact the Department of Residence at 800 854-9050.

28 APP Getting Started September 2006 Student Activities Fee (optional) APP students may pay a fee of $92.50, allowing them to access resources and events at Iowa State University.

29 APP Getting Started September 2006 Opportunities Work out at Iowa State recreational facilities, be a part of an Iowa State student organization, and ride CyRide fare-free with payment of an optional student activity fee.

30 APP Getting Started September 2006 Opportunities Attend athletic and selected cultural events at discounted Iowa State student rates. APP participants should contact the appropriate ticket office to purchase event tickets after paying the optional student activity fee.

31 APP Getting Started September 2006 In the last few weeks, APP students have: Purchased and used dining dollars in Iowa State’s dining facilities Played intramural football at Iowa State (and won!) Attended class at DMACC’s Boone, Ankeny, Urban, and West campuses Cheered for the Cyclones at Jack Trice Stadium Met with advisers from both institutions
