Ethnography study: people Children like to play with gas knobs Interview with parent, mrs wong, said her child might play with the gas stove as a danger in the home Q: what are the main dangers your children face at home? A: falling off the bed, and turning on the gas stove Jan-dec 2011, 500 fires caused by unattended cooking fires Total 1050 accidents caused by gas fires Inhalation of cooking gas (even once) causes: Muscle weakness Lack of coordination may cause breathing difficulties and/or heart failure. Cooking gas contains many toxins height of a child aged (2-4) is around 85.1 cm to 100.1 cm

Ethnography study: objects Brands of hobs turbohobzelba rinnaiaerogaz all of the brands require little effort to turn on the gas

Ethnography study:environment Kitchens are the main environment around stoves. Stoves can get oily, or be exposed to water Stoves are exposed to large amounts of heat Stoves operate near fire Most people require convenience in kitchens There is a lot of objects in a kitchen Little space for placing items

Ethnography study: messages

Ethnography study: services cooking gas delivery Cooking Boiling water

Needs from ethnography study there is a need: to prevent children from turning on the gas to prevent making the gas knob easy to turn on for children to ensure the material is made of fire-proof materials for the material to resist cooking oils and dirt for convenience in operating for parents for simplicity in the design to fit the knobs in the market To fit multiple knobs

User feedback By Mrs Khor Q:How do you think our product is user-friendly (or not) to you? A:The simple mechanism in this lock makes unlocking and locking fast & efficient, this not only reduces the locking time, it also makes it safe for the whole family! However, I’m also concerned that the lock is too simple, kids nowadays are pretty smart, they might know how to unlock it one way or another. Q:To what extend is our product beneficial to you? A:By having a lock over the gas stove, not only it is child proof, it also avoid accidents whereby I accidentally switched on the gas stove. As you know kids love to explore new things, and fidget around, I’m sure with this product, it is less likely for the kids to play with it. Q:How would you rate our product? A:I would give it a 7. As I’ve said earlier, this lock might be too easy for kids to figure it out, they might see it as something to play with.

User feedback By Mrs zhang Q:How do you think our product is user-friendly (or not) to you? A:I think this product is user-friendly to a certain extent. For example, many parents could use this product. However, many disabled parents might not be able to use it. Q:To what extend is our product beneficial to you? A:I think I will give it a 9/10 as there might be room for improvement. Q:How would you rate our product? A: This product allows many parents who could not afford to keep a close watch on the child feel safer as the child would face one less danger.
