1 The 7 Habits crash course
PDCP 10 MS. CHEVRIER

2 Number challenge Find and circle numbers 1-54 in order. Start with 1, then 2, then 3, and so on, all the way to 54 You have a minute and a half Start… Flip your page over and create the following grid on your page

3 The Framework: 19 46 39 4 40 23 50 6 15 43 52 53 26 9 36

4 Continued… Now that we have a framework lets try again
A minute and a half and start… How many managed to finish this time? What was the difference? The only difference is that I gave you a way of thinking – a framework – to help you find the numbers. Once you knew where to look, you could move at three times the speed.

5 Your 7 Habit’s Booklet Title: “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens”
Your name This booklet will be your guide for the 7 Habits. All our activities and class notes will be recorded here. You will use this booklet as a study guide for our first test. I will collect this booklet and mark it towards your class mark.

6 The Seven Habits by Sean Covey
Student Notes: The 7 Habits are a framework, or a way of thinking, that can help you solve your problems better and faster. The goal of this unit is to build and identify skills that will help you face challenges and lead a happy and productive life.

7

8 An overview of habits: Student Notes: A habit is…
…an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary. TED Talk: How to make something a habit GOOD BAD NEUTRAL Exercising every day Practicing good hygiene Making healthy food choices Saying thank you Swearing Interrupting Being late Disorganization Twirl your hair Taking showers at night Reading a magazine from back to front

9 Paradigms Student Notes: What is a paradigm?
It is your perception, point of view, or the way you see the world.

10 What is your paradigm?

11 Continued… Is our paradigm to drive on the right hand side of the road correct? And, those who drive on the left wrong? What would happen if you were driving in London but did not shift your paradigm about which side of the road to drive on?

12

13

14 Some famous paradigms…
“Television won’t be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first six months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.” Darryl Zanuck, Head of 20th Century- Fox, in 1946 “This ‘telephone’ has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us.” Western Union Internal Memo, in 1876 Do you think that these people would have had a paradigm shift? Why?

15 The whole story…pg. 16-17 Student notes:
The 7 habits will challenge your paradigms about yourself and life in general The key to making changes within yourself is to first change your perspective or paradigm.

16 Think about it… On the piece of paper I give you, think of one negative paradigm about yourself. One thing that maybe you don’t like. You do not need to share this with anyone else in the class. Now, crumple it up. I want you to hold that idea in your hand and think about it and make a decision. Decide if you want to hold on to that negative thought, or do something about it. If you’re going to hold on to it, just keep it, if not, come up to the front and throw it away. Make a change. Decide to do something about it.

17 What’s a Principle? Student Notes: Principles are natural laws.
Principles that govern human interaction: honesty, hard work, respect, service, focus, patience, responsibility, love, renewal, choice, and justice. Principles are timeless – you cannot break principles but only break yourself against them Since they never fail we should center our lives on them (copy principle center chart in notes; pg. 18) The 7 Habits are based upon principles

18 Principles continued…
Video – as you watch, try to determine what principles guide the lives of the father and son.
