14. Know Edge Limited Location Information Innovation Scenario Planning  A scenario is a story that describes a possible future. Decision-makers can use scenarios to:  think about and discuss the uncertain aspects of the future;  discover the aspects about which they should be concerned; and  explore the ways in which these might unfold.  There is no single answer to how the future will unfold, so sets of scenarios must be created.  Each one describes a different way in which the uncertain aspects of the future could play out. 14

Know Edge Limited Location Information Innovation Scenario Planning  Scenarios are intended to form a basis for strategic conversation and for considering potential implications of and possible responses to different events, opportunities and challenges.  They provide a means of exploring future uncertainties (looking around corners) and making more successful decisions. 15

Know Edge Limited Location Information Innovation Goal-Oriented Scenario Planning  The goal-oriented scenario planning process is proactive and puts the Round Table, on behalf of the Geomatics Sector, in charge of enacting its future rather than responding to it.  The future planning process begins by imagining the ideal future of the sector at a specific point in time, unconstrained by considerations of present circumstances.  Once the ideal design of the future is accepted, the next phase involves planning how to achieve that ideal design based on scenario development. 16
