3 Meet the Faculty of Education as it is now!  Faculty of Education based in Chelmsford for nine years and in fourth year in Cambridge  Currently 1303 FTE students; 839 full- time and 464 part-time students  Turnover £10 million  58 academic staff and 25 administrators  External funding project management facility (mPowerNet) 19 members of staff  Course delivery: Chelmsford, Cambridge, Peterborough, Regional Colleges, and work in Sri Lanka, South Africa and Europe

4 Focus on Research and Scholarship  The Institute of Childhood Research: A cross-faculty initiative involving Faculty of Health and Social Care and Arts, Law and Social Sciences ;  Four Research Groups: Creativity & education; early childhood; emerging identities; work-based learning  Some of our funded research & other projects: the Fenland Project (funded by HEFCE); the movement Project (funded by TDA); the Reggio Emilia Artist’s project (funded by Essex local authority); Sensory Play (with Play to Z)  We would be keen to work with you on projects, however small Cont..

5 Focus on Research and Scholarship  Selected single-authored and edited books include: The excellence of play; Foundations of learning; Beginning teaching-beginning learning (Janet Moyles with other staff) Forest Schools and outdoors play (Sarah Knight); Behaviour Problems in the Early Years (Theo Papatheodorou); Working together in the early years- relational pedagogy (Theo and Janet); Doctoral supervision (Vernon Trafford); Chapters in books and research journal articles

6 Focus on Research and Scholarship Forthcoming research-focused conference on “Early Childhood Curriculum policy and Pedagogy: an International Debate”, 25-27 March 2010 (funded by the British Academy) We also run a series of research seminars through the year and would welcome Alumni involvement and attendance at these

7 Focus on our student successes  Four successful graduates won the ‘Silver Bursary’ prize, a grant that enabled them to travel to Strasbourg and present at the European Early Childhood Educational Research Association Conference  Allison Beaumont, recent first class honours graduate on BA (Hons) Learning Technology and Research – final project played instrumental role in generating around £380,000 for the University through improving conversion and retention rates  The first Adams prize awarded to Kayleigh Calton

8 Focus on our current projects  School Business Management Programme. National College for School Leadership (NCSL) has developed the Certificate and Diploma in School Business Management.  Early Years Professional Status. EYPS is a recognisable status equivalent to QTS awarded to early years practitioners who can demonstrate they are leading and delivering excellent practice in line with a set of national standards.  Leadership and Management in Playwork. mPowerNet has been contracted by the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) to deliver a new leadership and management training programme to Playworkers.

9 Focus on current new developments  MA Early Years Professional Practice. Designed in conjunction with Essex County Council’s Early Years Service. Commences January 2010, Chelmsford  Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL). Working in conjunction with Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and UEA.  New Foundation Degrees in Professional Practice – Higher Skills @ Work Team  PGCE Primary Education starting at Peterborough  Curriculum 2010 project. Redesigning the Curriculum for Initial Teacher Training  Developing our School Partnership model

10 Focus on forthcoming events  Reflection in Early Years and Childcare Settings – confident practitioners celebrate good practice Saturday 14 November  Sharing Good Practice in Numeracy Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector Wednesday 18 November  www.anglia.ac.uk/education
