3. Emotional Development
Realization of being a separate person
Egotism

seeing the world as revolving around them
usually expressed by constant use of the word mine

4. Negativism
The way a toddler expresses his/her independence and general opposition to the world
Usually expressed by doing the opposite of what others want

5. What CAUSES Negativism??
Desire for independence
Frustration
Realization of being a separate person

6. Anger and frustration Release leads to temper tantrums
Often released by screaming, kicking, pounding and sometimes holding their breath
May continue through the age 4

7. Fear One-year-olds suffer from separation anxiety
fear that loved ones will not return
Three-year-olds with an expanding imagination may fear the dark
Adults should not dismiss the fears of the toddler but should handle in a supportive way

8. Jealousy
May begin when the child is 18 months
Peaks at the age of 3

9. What CAUSES Jealousy????
Toddler cannot understand that there is enough attention or love for everyone.

Relationships formed by the toddler’s interaction forms the base of their ability to love and show affection later in life

Glue the pictures onto construction paper and create a scripted dialog under the pictures to identify and explain the emotions shown.
Include suggestions for a response from caregiver to child to deal with the emotion.
