4. Who Can Participate? Elementary students, K-6...SPECIFICALLY –Students earning “average grades,” B’s and C’s WHY? –These children receive less and less strategic instructional support in school. –Teachers are required to spend significant time planning and executing interventions for struggling students, deemed “high risk.” The performance of these students on state testing is valued higher for academic gains, which constitute 50% of the school’s grade. –Students achieving the highest scores on assessments, “low risk and gifted,” receive extra enrichment time. The majority of students need more instructional time and independent practice to master skills taught.
