It is in the 4th watch – between 3 and 6 a.m. They see a man walking on the water, They think it is a ghost and cry out for fear.

Peter lost his focus!! He saw the wind boisterous! He doubted!!!

What was wrong with Peter? Walking One minute, and then Sinking the next? Ever been like that??

V. 32 And when they were come into the ship, The wind ceased.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

14 Lessons for us to Learn…

15 #1 All of us are afraid sometimes
What makes us afraid? In a ship during a storm. Weather, loss of jobs, age, family problems, health issues… So many things to cause us to Be afraid.

16 2 Good Reasons to put away fear
#1 . One reason may be that the problem is not nearly as bad as one had thought; perhaps you are afraid because you exaggerate the danger. #2 The other reason is that even though the problem may be real, there is an even greater solution and help at hand.

17 Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water:
We have no idea what prompted Peter to ask such a question, but his faith in Jesus was remarkable. He really responded to Jesus’ invitation and got out of the ship!

18 He walked on the water to go to Jesus
He walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink: walking in faith, showing that Peter was okay as long as he kept his focus on Jesus. . When he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was troubled by fear and began to sink.

19 Peter walked on the water but feared the wind: such is human nature, often achieving great things, and at fault in little things.” (Bruce)

20 Beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me
Beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” Even when Peter failed, Jesus was there to save him. Peter knew who to call out to at the moment of crisis. Jesus then brought Peter back to the ship.

21 The answer to fears… Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

22 Should we fear people? Matthew 10:28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell

23 Should we fear ? Matthew 14:27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

24 #2 O ye of little faith… 1. Notice Jesus said this to Peter, one of the apostles. Even the disciples had a Problem with faith…

25 What can faith do? Matthew 17:20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

26 The amazement of the disciples
Mark 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

27 Look what Jesus had just done.
Matthew 14:13-21 “You give them something to eat” ...Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

28 To Peter Matthew 14:29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

29 Look what Jesus does afterwards
Matthew 14:34-36 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret. After the people of that place recognized him, they sent word throughout the region and brought all who were sick to him, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.

30 Look what strong faith in God can do:
Abraham..besought God about Sodom and Gomorrah. Gen. 18: /45/40/30/20/10 If there had been 10 righteous souls there, it would have been spared! Moses…changed God’s mind about destroying Israel. Deut. 9:13-14

31 Remember: Faith is awesome! Faith is amazing! Faith is attainable.
It is not out of our reach—we can have it! Rom. 10:17 Heb. 11:1 Heb. 11:6

32 #3 Most of us fail in different ways
Peter began to sink because he lost his Focus. Matthew 14:30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

33 That was not the first time that Peter
Lost his focus and it would not be the last time. Luke 9:46 Remember the disciples arguments over greatness? Peter was there Matthew 26:69-75 Remember Peter's denial not just once but three times?

34 Remember Peter’s Gentile prejudices.
Gal. 2: (He was rebuked by Paul)

35 Most of us will have our Down Times
1. There are times when our environment presses us from all sides, we may not see a way out. 2. We may think there is no hope and we may fail. That’s why this record given here in Matt. 14 is so great. Even though there is failure, there Is help and forgiveness from the Lord

36 4. God’s protection is clear
Jesus still provided safety. Matthew 14:31-32 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

37 God loves us, and when we fail, we
Need to turn to Him for forgiveness And for help to become stronger. 1 John 2:1-2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

38 These 4 things should help us to turn to God for His help
# 1 Fear God and not man. #2 Do you have little faith, much faith Or no faith at all? #3 We all fail at times. We fall! We will have Down Times #4 God is there to lift us up…Peter Pleaded with Jesus to save him… That’s where we must turn.

39 Jesus said: Be not afraid, It is I! .
We must remember that to keep Us going… Heb. 12:1-2 John 1:29 Matt. 11:

40 Before we can do much for Jesus, we need to remember:
Matt. 14:30 Lord, Save Me! It’s me, it’s me, its me O Lord,

41 It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer
It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer. It's me, it's me, it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer.

42 Not my brother or my sister, but it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer. Not my brother or my sister, but it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer.

43 Not my mother or my father, but it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer. Not my mother or my father, but it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer.

44 Not my stranger or my neighbour, but it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer. Not my stranger or my neighbour, but it's me, O Lord, Standin' in the need of prayer.
