4 How would you like your steak? Rare= Cooked quickly and red inside. Medium-rare = Cooked longer but still red in the middle. Medium= Cooked more and pink. Well-done= Cooked longer and not pick.

5 Ways of cooking food  Boil: in water.  Fry: in oil or butter above the heat.  Grill: under the heat.  Roast: in the oven using oil.  Bake: in the oven without oil.

Fattening: food which makes you put on weight. Chilled: very cold. Still: describes water without gas. Sparkling/ Fizzy: water with gas.

8 Naturally Speaking Uncountable Nouns A lot of food is made up of uncountable nouns, to make them countable you need to put them in another form. For example: "A...... of......".="A piece of fruit."

9 Here is a list of some of the uncountable nouns in this quarter's vocabulary and some ways to make them countable.

10 Asparagus: A bunch of asparagus. Beef: A slice of beef. Bread: A slice of bread. Broccoli: A piece of broccoli. Fruit: A piece of fruit. Honey: A pot of honey. Jam: A jar of jam. Rice: A grain of rice. Salt: A pinch of salt. Sugar: A spoonful of sugar.

19 Verbs  To bake: To cook by dry heat in an oven or similar. Eg. He baked the pie.  To boil: To cook something in very hot water. Eg. She boiled the rice.  To chop: To cut something into pieces. Eg. She chopped an onion.  To cook: To prepare food for eating by the use of heat. Eg. He cooked her dinner.  To cut: To divide food with a sharp instrument. Eg. He cut into the roast.  To dice: To cut something into cubes. Eg. He diced the potato.

20 Verbs  To feed: To provide food for eating. Eg.She fed the cat.  To fry: To cook food in fat/oil over a direct heat. Eg. He fried the bacon.  To peel: To remove the skin/rind/outer covering of fruit/vegetables etc. Eg. She peeled the grapes for the fruit salad.  To skin: To remove the outer covering from fruit/meat/fish etc. Eg.She skinned the fish.  To slice: To divide or cut something into slivers. Eg.He sliced the apple.
