2 Deutsch Lebensmittel: Geschichte German land was fertile and water was ample, so in the early days German food consisted primarily of meat, cheese, and milk. The land allowed for mass production of sheep and cows. The influence of Roman food and customs was seen for a short while.

3 Deutsch Lebensmittel: Geschichte German food has been greatly effected by the countries that now surrond it: France, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Russia, and Austria. The French introduced a few customs still seen today in Germany and spices were also taken from foreign countries.

4 Deutsch Sitten Germans typically eat three meals a day (although some eat five). Many of the dining customs in Germany are similar to those from America. Germans must be polite and respectful at the dinner table. Fun Fact: Common toast with wine is ‘Zum Wohl!’ (good health) while the common toast with beer is ‘Prost!’ (good health).

5 Deutsch Lebensmittel German food is very regional based. This means that when your in Brandenburg (northern Germany) you will find many variations in the style and type of food than if you were in Bayern (southern Germany).

6 Oktoberfest Germany is big in beer production and during a 16-17 day span there is a huge beer festival in Germany called Oktoberfest. During the festival nearly 7 million liters of beer is consumed. Oktoberfest is a huge tourist attraction and is a yearly occurrence in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.

7 Deutsch Lebensmittel Some typical German foods are: – Bratwurst (sausage) – Sauerbraten (beef roast) – Sauerkraut (pickled cabbage) – Knödel (dumplings) – Weizenbier (wheat beer)
