Vanderbilt Anesthesia

2 Dress Code Surgical attire is worn to promote cleanliness, surgical consciousness and professionalism within the surgical environment. This policy outlines the required attire and practices used at Vanderbilt to achieve optimal health and safety for patients and staff.

3 What Has Changed? Enforcement!

4 Some Reminders Wash or disinfect hands when gloves are removed or when hands are soiled (dispenser behind anesthesia cart). All head and facial hair must be completely covered. Body odor or strong fragrances are verboten.

5 Some Reminders No artificial fingernails or nails longer than ¼ inch from the fingertip. Wear fluid-resistant shoe covers when splashes or spills may occur. Change scrub clothes when visibly soiled

6 The BIG Ones No scrub attire worn to or from work.
No home laundering of scrubs.

7 The Sorta Big Ones Jackets—only warm-up jackets provided by the OR may be worn as an outer garment in the OR. Jackets must be laundered daily. VUMC jackets available at front desk for use

8 The Sorta Big Ones Personalized warm-up and insulated jackets must be covered by OR provided warm-up jacket. Derelict male nurse not included

9 The Sorta Big Ones Earrings must be covered Cloth hats
Must be covered with a disposable hair cover Must be laundered daily.

10 The Sorta Big Ones Cover Garments
Lab coat Personalized warm-up jacket (shown here in male nurse version) Insulated jacket Must be worn over scrubs when out of the OR (Cafeteria, etc.)

11 The Sorta Big Ones Open toed shoes are not allowed.
Vented shoes should be covered with fluid-resistant covers when splashes or spills may occur

12 When Leaving the OR Remove disposable head cover, shoe covers, and mask Wear a cover garment as described over scrubs Cover garment must be removed or covered before entering the OR. No cover garment is required for patient transports.
