How Does it Work? HEAD Set utilises “chemical oxygen”, Potassium Superoxide (KO²), to generate oxygen and allow carbon dioxide (CO²) to be removed. The initial start up phase incorporates a chlorate candle that is activated as the set is donned and the self-test alarm procedure. The wearer exhales through the generators so commencing the generation of oxygen and removal of CO². © Semmco Limited 2009

HEAD Set – Components Hood:- Incorporating the oronasal mask harness and the generator cells cradle. This arrangement allows the mask and hood to be positioned for maximum wearer comfort and safety. The hood visor provides excellent panoramic vision and easy sight of the visual alarm indicators. The comfortable latex neck seal ensures protection to the wearer from irrespirable atmospheres. © Semmco Limited 2009

HEAD Set – Components The warning alarm:- The warning alarm provides the user with a three stage audible and visual alarm. Stage 1:- The warning alarm will function briefly to confirm operation on start up. Stage 2:- which is initiated after 2/3 of the effective duration, provides the wearer with an intermittent visual and audible alarm. Stage 3:- activates when the effective duration has been reached, providing the wearer with a constant audio and visual alarm. © Semmco Limited 2009

HEAD Set – Components Generator cells:- Containing Potassium Superoxide (KO²). Ideally located on either side of the wearer’s head, ensuring an even distribution of weight whilst maximising the breathing system’s efficiency in the generation of oxygen and the removal of carbon dioxide. © Semmco Limited 2009

How are HEAD Sets Packaged?
HEAD Sets are vacuum-sealed in an aluminium foil container. An indicator provides the user with a simple visual check on the integrity and condition of the unit. This novel packaging system allows the unit to be stored for an initial six years and for a further three year period following a satisfactory validation/re-certification test. © Semmco Limited 2009
23
HEAD Sets - Prior to use Check Case To Ensure:
The case is not damaged. The security seal is intact. The unit is within life expiry date. The vacuum pack is intact and the indicator is BLUE.If indicator is PINK, DO NOT USE! The equipment should not be used if these conditions are not met. © Semmco Limited 2009

HEAD Sets – Donning Open the carrying case by pulling webbing tag. OR
Open the wall mounted case by pulling on the lid. Lid will fall away to reveal vacuum pack. Unfold tear strip, hold securely and rip open using red tear tab. Pull firmly on the breathing protection device to remove from vacuum pack. This action automatically activates the generation of oxygen into the breathing bag and commences the alarm start up procedure. If the alarm self test procedure does not initiate do not use the set. © Semmco Limited 2009
